At two years old, the triplets obviously don’t understand the concept of pregnancy. Never mind that they aren’t very verbal yet, but it’s a pretty sophisticated concept for them to grasp. They don’t have any sense of time beyond the very immediate past and the present. I’m not clear how much they understand about the future, but I’m guessing they don’t have a sense of much more than the next few minutes or hours.
Still, I told the triplets that there is a baby in my belly. Abby and Sam didn’t seem to react much, but Ellie seems to have absorbed the news.
She keeps poking my belly and saying “Babies!”
Um.
No.
BabY, not BabIES.
Oh please don’t let this child be better at sensing the future than highly paid ultrasound technicians and perinatologists.
Ellie cracks me up. She and Abby & Sam came as a set…doesn’t everyone?
True what previous commenter said. How cute.
LOL! Her reference is more than one mommy! Lil Miss was 2 and a half when her brothers were born and I was so amazed at how much she understood. Keep at it.
What a darling! When my oldest (now 8) was younger she was freaky about knowing things like that. 2 days after I had found out I was pregnant she asked me what her little brother’s name was (I hadn’t told anyone I was pregnant yet, not even my husband). I told her if we ever had a little boy his name would be Jakob Jaxon and left it at that. A week and a half later I miscarried. The morning after I lost the baby I heard her tell her sister that their baby brother had died. We hadn’t told anyone.
So you can imagine when a year later she told me that we’d be getting 2 more babies out of my tummy how uneasy I was when I became pregnant again a year after she’d mentioned the 2 babies. You know where this is going, right? At my 15 week checkup my doc measured me and says “Holy smokes! How many are you hatching in there???” I had been telling myself that I was showing so quickly because it was my 3rd baby and my tummy was so out of shape.
My oldest was tickled pink when we took her with to that first ultrasound to confirm that there were indeed 2 more babies in my tummy – just as she’d predicted!
That should have said (now 8 ) – those sneaky emoticons!
