I have to test for ketones every morning, what with the hyperemesis and all. Ketones, apparently, are not good for baby. Until I started getting IV fluids with dextrose in them every day, I was spilling ketones like mad (150+). I’m sure that contributed to my very rapid weightloss in the beginning of this pregnancy, and I’m sure having stopped the ketosis is the largest contributor of me having been able to remain relatively stable since.
Anyway, I got a new box of the ketosis test strips this week and I note, with some irony, that it highlights on the box, “Great for a low-carb lifestyle!”
Now that is an understatement if I’ve ever heard one!
Speaking of iron, my iron is still low and my OB practice is encouraging me to keep taking those iron supplements. You know, the ones I can’t keep down on account of the hyperemesis? Yeah, those.
Left hand meet right hand! Hi! I wish two things for everyone in your OB practice. 1) That they actually read your chart before calling you. 2) That they write, “Yes, she really can’t keep anything down. Believe it.”
It’s one of life’s true questions – why do they make pills that taste and smells so gross for preggy woman?
I think you might be a size 2 at the end of this pregnancy. The pregnancy diet really works for you.
February is almost over. That means you are that much closer to the end. Keep hanging in there – I know you will.
Glad you are getting dextrose!
Why won’t they add iron to your IV vitamin thingie?_
IV iron can be done, but the first dose needs to be done in an outpatient infusion center in case of anaphylaxis. In other words, breathing = cool.
If her iron gets low enough, they might do it. Or they might simply remind her to take iron by mouth. ‘cuz that’s working *real well*…
i am sorry your pregnancy is so difficult , it must be so hard with 4 other little ones at home. I hope the last few weeks are not to bad..
Giggling a little over Seth’s comment. Or at least the last part of it.
Hang in there.
